Layers Glossary

Selecting Layer Type
If the layer is set as “Crossing”, then when a “Scan for Crossings” is executed, Skyline will locate all the Lines, Polylines, and Arcs on that Layer that are crossing the current Alignment. It will display the station for these crossings with the Layer’s description in the Station Band. If a Layer is defined as “Ignore Points”, then when a “Scan for Point” is executed, Skyline will ignore the Points on that Layer. If the Layer appears in the Table twice, once as “Crossing” and once as “Ignore”, then when a “Scan for Crossings” and “Points” is executed, the application will find all Lines, Polylines, and Arcs on that Layer as Crossing, and it will also ignore any Points on that Layer. If a Layer does not appear in the Layer Table, then when a “Scans for Crossings” and “Points” is executed, the application will not find any Line, Polylines or Arcs on that Layer as Crossing, but will still find the Points on that Layer.

Contours
If contours or 2D Polylines at elevations need to be included when generating the profile, the User must set the layer with those contours to Crossing. These entities by default will be displayed in the Station Band. The User can modify the display of these contours by opening the Points Table in the Project Database File and change the column StaDisplay from 1 (display) to a 0 (do not display). This can also be done at sheet Extraction by changing the display option for the description, found under Station Filter options.

NOTE: Make sure the correct layers are selected in the Layers dialog, or Alignment will not be scanned correctly.
