Licensing Tips

The licensing tips has common issues that some users may run into. Each issue contains a solution that can be performed by the user. 

Pointing to Multiple Servers

Issue:

 Clients with a primary and backup license server or licenses on different servers.

Additional information :

  • The client has Skyline and Lightning installed on different servers.
  • The user opens Skyline or Lightning first.
  • The license information will be replaced by the secondary application.
  • The second application will be unable to find the license.

Resolution

  • List the primary server ; secondary server, when prompted by the licensing manager inside the application.

 

Setting Up BSD Service using AutoDesk Network Manager

Issue:

  • Clients that require a higher version of LMtools and can only run one license manager. 

Additional Information:

  • The BSD service is running and ports are define , but unable to see the status in the network enquiry.
  • Applications are constantly kicked off when ports are already defined.

 

Resolution:

  1. Copy BSDI.exe and place it into AutoCad's Network License Manager folder
  2. Repath using the Lmgrd.exe from AutoCad's Network License Manager

 

Defining Ports in a License File 

 Issue :

 Conflicts with application services running on a client machine or license server.

Additional Information :

  • The client starts the BSD License Service and the AutoCad License stops. 
  • Stopping the BSD License Service will allow other License Services to start. 

Resolution:

Flexera's ports range from 27000-27009.

  1. Open LMtools and go to the Server Status Tab.
  2. Click on Perform Status Enquiry.
  3. Observe the results and record the ports of the licenses running on the network.
  4. Open the BSD License file and define the port one character space after the MAC Address.
  5. Go to the Start/Stop/Reread tab.
  6. Check off the Force Server Shut Down box.
  7. Click Stop Server.
  8. Click Start Server.
  9. Click ReRead License File the file to restart the BSD service.
